Utilities Undergrounding

Summary

Below is an e-mail from a group of Kensington residents called Kensington neighbors for better undergrounding. They are summarizing the results of a survey they mailed out to homes in Kensington. As of November 2010, the KTPG has not taken an official position on this matter. The KTPG is serving strictly to inform the community at this point.

Survey Results

Dear Kensington Homeowners,
 
We want to thank the hundreds of homeowners in Kensington who took the time to read the undergrounding flyer and responded to the survey/questionairre. This email is being sent to you because you indicated on the response form that you wished to receive updates regarding the proposed underground project.
 
Listed below is a recap of the Underground Response Form tally. We sent 1362 homeowners the flyer and response form. We received 431 forms for a total return rate of 31.6%.
 
The results are as follows:

• Choice A - If necessary, negotiate for up to two years past the 2012 start date for a better underground solution: 268 votes or 62.2%
• Choice B - move forward with the current schedule and utility company procedures: 48 votes or 11.1%
• Choice C - install all equipment underground or keep the present pole system: 96 votes or 22.3%
• Choice D - not enough information to make a decision: 13 votes or 3% Marked both A and C: 5 votes or 1.2%
• No selection indicated: 1 form or 0.2%

This has been a great response from our community, which chose their desired way forward by an overwhelming vote. The combined votes for those favoring negotiation and willing to delay the proposed Kensington underground project in an attempt to obtain a better result with the utility companies was an impressive 85.7%.
